We the Social Justice Task Force of New Dover United Methodist Church of Edison, New Jersey strongly object to the recent United States government policy that separates minors from their parents upon crossing our southern border.
We stand side by side with the members of the Río Texas Conference of The United Methodist Church who overwhelmingly passed the following resolution at their annual conference on June 12, 2018:
“Therefore, be it resolved that the Río Texas Conference of The United Methodist Church, in the name and Spirit of Jesus Christ, shall respectfully request the US Department of Justice immediately discontinue separating children from their families due to the ‘zero tolerance policy.”
